More about George:

What did/do you study?

My Undergrad was in Marketing and Postgrad MSc Marketing

What SU run events and activities have you been a part of?

I was a part of the Winchester Jaguars Tennis team in my second year at the university, in my third and fourth year at the university I was a part of the Winchester Spirits Cheerleading team, competing in Level 2NT (1st place southern and 2nd place nationally), and competing in Level 1 (1st place southern and 1st place nationally). Alongside this, I was social sec in my fourth year for cheerleading. I have attended colours awards for three years with said societies and have attended other celebration awards including Winton, and Freshers events over my 4 years at the university.

What are your top Manifesto points?

  • Elevate support and well-being for committee members, involving regular check-ups and trainings so everyone feels rewarded and supported.
  • Supporting, representing, and championing sports teams, representational networks, and societies at hosted events and match days, empowering them for success.
  • Make social events more accessible by being affordable.
  • More investment in the activity participation fund to aid individuals in activity groups.
  • Continue to celebrate and reward societies for exceptional weeks and achievements.
  • Continued support of campaigns that make a difference (e.g., This Girl Can, Black Lives Matter, Rainbow Laces, Movember, and Boys Don’t Cry).

What made you run in the Elections to become an officer?

I had wanted to be a sabbatical officer for as long as I can remember, both my mum and sister had attended Winchester University and my sister had worked for the student union. Being friends with the previous VPAS I had seen the work she had done and how much she enjoyed the job and knew that was something I wanted to do. Also, having been part of sports teams I knew I wanted a bigger role essentially and to support, represent and champion these teams, societies, and representational networks.

What’s your favourite thing about Winchester?

My favourite thing about Winchester is the amount of coffee shops! And The White Company! Just joking (I’m not). Winchester has a gorgeous aura, has stunning views and is a safe place to live. Having visited many times over the years, I knew this was the place I wanted to be.

What has been your proudest moment during your student journey (so far)?

Graduating is a good start! Achieving an upper second class with honours was beyond what I thought I could achieve, let alone being a national champion in the sport of Cheerleading (a lifelong dream of mine)

What do you like doing when you aren’t being a Winchester SU Officer?

I love reading Agatha Christie, Listening to Vinyl, going to concerts, festivals, and theatre, alongside running and coffee! Nothing too crazy 😊

What's your favourite film?

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie or Bring it on (don’t make me choose)
