At Winchester Students' Union, our Officers have been deeply aware from the moment they began their roles of how significantly the Cost of Living crisis has impacted our student community. Since then, we have been actively researching, monitoring developments, and working closely with other Students’ Unions to identify the best ways to support you.
On a broader scale, we have been engaging with local government to explore how students in Winchester can be better supported, while also keeping a close eye on the national response from the Prime Minister’s Government. Locally, we have assessed the current support provided by both the University and the Union, as well as identifying where further action is needed. After a year of lobbying and collaboration with the University, we hope you will begin to see a variety of meaningful provisions put in place. At the same time, we have been developing our own Union-led initiatives to further support you.
To ensure you can easily access all relevant information and support during this challenging time, we have created a comprehensive Cost of Living Hub that we will continue to build and update. Below, you will find resources, financial support options, tips, discounts, and initiatives from both the Union and the University. While we have invested significant time into these efforts, we recognise there is still more to do - and we want your voice to guide what comes next. Please continue to share your experiences and thoughts with us so we can support you as living changes.
The rising cost of living is a nationwide issue that demands national action and cannot be resolved overnight. However, we hope this webpage serves as a useful platform to access the latest support available from both the University and the Union. If you need advice or assistance, please reach out.
We stand with you as you navigate this crisis and remain committed to securing the best possible outcomes for all students.
