We are delighted to announce that this summer has seen the completion of phase one of our venue space refurbishments with the introduction of a new lighting and sound system. These changes are designed to improve the overall quality of the entertainment experience of those attending Winchester Student Union events, whether that be Bop, Silent Disco, our other club nights or our Balls. It had become clear to us that the sound and lighting needed an upgraded. Nonetheless, as a charity and an organisation responsible for a huge range of events, student opportunities and representation it is important that we remain financially stable and responsible. In that regard we have reviewed our current Bop pricing structure and have taken the decision to increase pre-entry prices from £2.00 to £3.00; this is in-line with our price structuring over 11 years ago.
Venue Refurbishment – What’s to come?
Whilst this summer has seen phase one of our venue refurbishment, the lighting and sound is not all we wish to see changed. Current plans will see a complete refurbishment of Level 1, in line with the Terrace Bar refurbishment which took place two years earlier. These refurbishments will allow us to keep our venue space up to date and ensure that its continued multi-use is available. As you may know The Vault is used for a range of activities from Bop to Movies, and Award Evenings to Quizzes; and we which to maintain a venue that can be used by all students whatever they enjoy.
Why Bop?
As your Student Union, all income drawn in through our commercial services are spent on activities and provisions enjoyed by you. These activities include sports teams and societies, the provision of student academic representatives and the range of campaigns ran by your elected officers aimed at improving your overall university experience. The increase in Bop prices by £1.00, and a return to our previous lower price bound, allows the Union to increase its provisions and provide increased support in all areas of student life. Winchester Student Union strives to empower its membership through the provision of exceptional student led and student delivered activities and services. Bop will still be what is it, with cheesy music, fancy dress and the return of the famous Bop t-shirts.
